Named Chairman of Cultural Arts Council
Thomas
A. Blackstock, Jr., a partner in the firm of Laird, Baker &
Blackstock was recently named chairman of the Opp Cultural Arts
Council by the Opp City Council.
The Mayor and Council of Opp formed the
Opp Cultural Arts Council as a means of promoting Opp’s
art community and to educate the children of Opp more in the arts.
As a part of the formation, they named the first board of directors
of the Cultural Arts Council. The Board includes local folk artist,
Toby Hollinghead, who is gaining notoriety. She has a gallery
just north of Opp on Highway 331.
According to Blackstock, “this is
something Opp has needed for a long time. We are going to work
to secure a building where artists can display their works and
where we can provide some performing arts for the community.”
Part of the purpose of the newly formed
organization will be to solicit membership, contributions, and
grants to promote the arts.
Blackstock has had an interest in art, antiques,
and architecture since early childhood and was a natural choice
for the job. |
