Laird, Baker &
Blackstock Law Firm Launches Newsletter
Opp - This is the first newsletter our firm has done
in a formal fashion. In the past we have tried to keep our clients
informed on major issues in politics and the law by sending informal
letters from time to time. With this publication, we intend to
maintain a regular newsletter to our friends, family, and clients,
both past and present.
In this newsletter, we will feature stories of interest about
the partners of the firm, Wesley Laird, David Baker, and Andy
Blackstock. We will strive to keep you informed of trends in the
law that might be of interest to some of our readers. And, we
will, as space permits, provide other articles that reflect our
opinion about issues that may affect your legal rights.
We hope you find the newsletter to be something you will look
forward to reading. If you have friends, neighbors, or family
that wish to receive our newsletter, please call our office. We
will be glad to add them to our mailing list.

Toy Recalls

numerous children's toys that can lead to death or injury. You
can learn more about these dangerous products on their web site
at www.cpsc.gov.

Pressure Treated Lumber
Creates
Health Hazzard
The EPA has reached an agreement with the lumber industry to
take CCA pressure treated lumber off the market. The reason is
that currently most pressure treated wood contains arsenic, chromium,
and other potentially dangerous chemicals.
The chemicals in most pressure treated lumber have been linked
to many serious illnesses such as lung and skin cancers, nervous
disorders, hearing loss, memory loss, and other health problems.
Our firm is currently reviewing and investigating possible cases
against the manufacturers of pressure treated lumber for clients
with extensive exposure. If you are suffering from a serious illness
and were exposed to pressure treated lumber for long periods of
time, you may want to make an appointment with us.
We are currently reviewing cases involving people who worked in
the building industry, such as carpenters, and those who have
worked in pressure treatment mills.
The wood industry is starting to market lumber that is pressure
treated without these dangerous chemicals.
F.Y.I. - FOR YOUR INFORMATION
This section is dedicated to information that can affect your
family. Did you know:
-That most individuals being sued in jury trials have insurance
that will cover any verdict for money damages that might be entered
against them. However, the law prevents the person suing or their
attorneys from even mentioning this to the jury.
-That most people (even lawyers) don't have wills, but it is
one of the most important things you can do for your family. And
getting a will done is very inexpensive.
|
-That arbitration takes away your
right to a jury trial and makes pursuing a claim much more costly
for consumers.
DRYVIT STUCCO CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT REACHED
A proposed class action settlement has been reached for all persons
who, as of June 5, 2002, own a one or two family residential dwelling
or townhouse clad with Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems
("EIFS") manufactured by Dryvit Systems, Inc. And installed
after January 1, 1989.
We are advising clients who have synthetic stucco on their home
exterior to opt out of this class action before the deadline of
September 3, 2002. Make an appointment for a free consultation
if we can assist you.
Dryvit synthetic stucco has created a lot of problems for homeowners
by trapping moisture inside the home and causing wood rot, especially
in our part of the country where temperatures and humidity often
run high.
Your Full-Service Firm
Many of our clients come to one of the three attorneys in our
firm for a specific need, not knowing that the other attorneys
in the firm handle other legal matters. While often times people
view our firm as strictly a plaintiff's firm that handles large
cases such as wrongful death, accidents, oil rig injuries, and
insurance fraud, we can handle
most all of your legal needs.
In addition to the civil lawsuits, David Baker handles criminal
and divorce matters and Andy Blackstock handles real estate, consumer
bankruptcy, and probate matters.
